What Movie Inspired The Silence?
The Silence draws inspiration from modern sci-fi horror films like *A Quiet Place* (2018), directed by John Krasinski and starring Emily Blunt. These creatures are defined by their hypersensitive hearing, armored exoskeletons, and instinctive aggression toward any sound. Their terrifying presence and lethal speed made them perfect candidates for a Dungeons & Dragons adaptation.
Why Bring This Monster Into D&D 5e?
Silent hunters create tension unlike any typical encounter. Monsters that rely on sound turn exploration into a high-stakes game of survival. Players must rethink movement, spells, communication, and tactics, transforming even a simple hallway into a deadly challenge.

Monster Details
What is The Silence
The Silence originated on a lightless planet in the far reaches of the Astral Sea—a hellish world with crushing gravity and complete darkness. Evolving without the use of sight, these creatures developed hypersensitive echolocation and armor-like plates capable of deflecting most physical harm. They do not hunt for food or sport, but out of pure instinct: anything that makes noise is perceived as a threat.
Where are they Found?
Silence creatures thrive in environments that reward stealth and punish sound, such as:
- caverns and deep-underground ruins
- collapsed spellforges where magic hums beneath the stone
- shattered planar rifts leading to their homeworld
- abandoned cities where echoes carry for miles
Tactics and Behaviour
The Silence switches between defensive and detection modes depending on the intensity of nearby sound. When calm, it remains armored and patient. But once alerted, it becomes a lightning-fast executioner. Stunning noise or thunder damage can overwhelm it—but doing so risks drawing more of them.
Using The Monster in Your Game
How Can You Add "The Silence" to Your D&D 5e Game?

- An artifact emits a low hum, attracting swarms of Silence creatures.
- A planar breach allows these hunters to slip into the Material Plane.
- The party must cross a canyon where even a whispered word may summon death.
- A Silence stows away on an airship, threatening to tear it apart mid‑flight.
